Day 1

I'm starting this a little late as this is my fourth or fifth excursion into Uru already. Currently I'm relaxing in my Relto, my home within the game, and reflecting upon my first day in the new Uru.

Relto

I, like everyone, began in Relto with only two linking books from which to choose: Bevin and The Cleft. The Cleft begins Yeesha's quest (more on her in another post) that everyone needs to do sooner or later, but I know that Uru really can't be experienced without a KI, and that meant using the other link book to Bevin.

Bevin is one of an innumerable number of D'ni neighbourhoods that can be found in The Cavern. In fact, their seems to be an innumerable number of Bevins. Mine is DRC (4619) Bevin. The DRC is the D'ni Restoration Council who swept in soon after The Cavern was discovered. They are working to restore access to the Ages of the D'ni and to control the access that the thousands of explorers that have been showing up have to the linking books. The familiar sign instructing me to get my KI in Gahreesen is there. I linked there immediately to get what I need.

The KI is communication device with fellow explorer, marker locator (more on this later), camera, notebook and more. Needless to say, if you are going to be in Uru, you are going to need it.

After getting the KI, go to the cavern to meet some fellow travellers. Here, I soon got a message from someone (Bill? Bob?) asking for help with the journey cloths in Eder Tsogal. As the aging Myst veteran I certainly thought I could help him through this old Uru level. We met in the Beginner's Bevin, and only then realized he didn't mean Eder Remo (which I've completed at least a few times in solo play), but a new Age. Now the inept newbie I follow him in where I see there are a number of cloths that have to be pressed in a specific order by more than one person working together. Just as we look like we're making progress, my modem flakes out and the game crashes. This will become a frustrating pattern over the next couple of weeks.
